Hoff named interim dean in Engineering

Dr. Andrew Hoff, a longtime Fresno State faculty member and administrator – and a Fresno State alumnus – has been named interim dean of the College of Engineering. Provost Jeri Echeverria announced his appointment as part of the plan to retain and revitalize the College of Engineering.

Hoff has been associate dean in the College of Health and Human Services since 1999. He oversees several areas including faculty and staff personnel, facilities, technology, student affairs, curriculum, research and community building.

Echeverria said, “Based on Dr. Hoff’s extensive experience as an administrator, I have every confidence that he will lead the College of Engineering effectively through this important period of revitalization.”

Hoff started his career in the city of Mendota and held several administrative posts, including acting city manger. He later was a principal in Windstar Leisure Services Inc., a private firm providing consultation and program planning to corporations and public agencies.

After working for several years as a part-time faculty member at Fresno State, he was appointed to a full-time position in the Recreation Administration and Leisure Studies Program in 1987. In 1995, he was named coordinator of the program.

Hoff has served on numerous campus governance committees including Academic Policy and Planning, General Education, Academic Senate, Facilities and Campus Environment (two years as chair), Global and Continuing Education, and Employee Assistance Committee. He also initiated “Life+Work+Links,” which is now part of the campus Employee Assistance Program.

Hoff holds a B.A. degree in geography and an M.S. in physical education/recreation administration from Fresno State. He earned a Ph.D. in recreation and leisure from the University of Utah. Dr. Hoff has been married for 34 years to Diana, and has two children.
