The McNair Program is now accepting applications for 2006. The program is a federally-funded, 16-month program designed to prepare qualified students for graduate study. more

President’s Graduate Scholars Fellowship
Nominations are being sought for two President’s Graduate Scholars Fellowships. These $3,500 fellowships are available to first-semester master’s degree or Ed.D. students for 2005-06. more

Graduate Student Research Merit Award

The spring application deadline for the Graduate Student Research Merit Award
is Friday, March 18. more

University High School
The following students were selected for the 2005 All-State Honor Band: Mary Jane Carignan, Chris Golden, Eric Ritter and Pierce Yamaoka. Out of a thousand students statewide who submitted audition tapes, only one third were selected. more

Alcohol awareness event

A St. Patrick’s Day barbeque and alcohol awareness event for students will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 17 in The Pit at the University Student Union. more

Volunteer nominations
The University Volunteer of the Year Selection Committee is accepting applications for the 2005 University Volunteer of the Year Award. Nominations must be received by Wednesday, March 16. more

New grant awards

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announced 10 new grant awards were received Jan. 18-31 totaling $1,170,859. more

Friends of the Madden Library

Parminder Singh of Kingsburg will be the third speaker in the “Faces of the Valley” series sponsored by the Friends of the Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, on March 4. A reception will begin at 6 p.m. and the program at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. more

The Division of Graduate Studies is now accepting nominations for the 2005 University Graduate Medal. more

Technology training services

Technology Training, in addition to providing hands-on workshops, now provides software training using a unique, just-in-time approach. Our Web site contains 150+ short video tutorials. more

E-mail ‘phishing’ alert

The problem of e-mail “phishing” is becoming more widespread and the campus community should be aware of this issue and know how to avoid potential problems. more

TOP grants cut

The US Department of Commerce recently announced that the Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) had been eliminated effective immediately. more

Excellence conference
The Regional Conference on Excellence in Teaching and Learning will be held in the University Business Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 8. more

Expanded recycling
Due to the overwhelming response to the recent expansion of recycling efforts, the Grounds and Landscape Architecture office has taken steps to increase the ability to recycle more paper and cardboard.  Starting last month paper recycling pick ups are done on a Monday through Friday schedule.  more

Ghana travel study

Dr. Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi, Professor and Coordinator of Africana & American Indian Studies, will introduce students to the culture and history of his home country in a new travel study program scheduled for Summer 2005. more

Anxiety Screening Day

On Thursday, March 10, University Health & Psychological Services will offer a special opportunity to learn how to recognize the signs of anxiety disorders and to participate in a free screening as part of College Anxiety Screening Day. more

Graduate curriculum change requests

Graduate programs planning to propose curriculum/catalog changes for inclusion in the 2006-07 University Catalog, should submit the required forms to the Division of Graduate Studies by March 14. more

‘Twisters/Boomer Kids’

The Employee Assistance office in association with Life+Work+Links is offering a two-part series, “Twixters/Boomer Kids: In Search of Parental Perspective,” on April 1 and 8, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Whitten Room of the Smittcamp Alumni House. more

Community research grants

In their final report on our accreditation, WASC has encouraged the university to "continually reinforce its commitment to improving the human condition in the Valley." more

Author Melkonian to speak
Author Markar Melkonian will present his new book, "My Brother's Road: An American's Fateful Journey to Armenia" at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, in the Industrial Technology Building, Room 101. The lecture is part of the Armenian Studies Program Spring 2005 Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by the Armenian Students Organization. more

Call for research abstracts
The call for abstracts for the 26 th Annual Central California Research Symposium has been announced and abstracts must be submitted to the Grants Web site by Wednesday, March 16. Abstracts from all areas of investigation are encouraged. more
