Internal auditor named

Dr. Welty has appointed Mathew Babick as Fresno State’s new internal auditor, effective Feb. 28, 2005.

Babick was the police performance auditor/audit project manager for the city of Los Angeles. In that position, which he has held since 2002, he lead, designed, supervised and conducted in-depth audits of complex police operations.

He has 11 years of experience in auditing higher education programs, including eight years (1988-96) performing audits at several CSU campuses as management auditor for the CSU Board of Trustees.

He also performed audits of public agencies with the firm Thompson, Cobb, Brizilio, and Associates, was internal auditor for the City of Santa Monica and for El Paso Community College and was a congressional auditor/policy analyst for the U.S. General Accounting Office.

Babick earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration from San Diego State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. He is a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Fraud Examiner and is bilingual in Spanish.

As Internal Auditor, Babick will be responsible for all aspects of the internal audit process. He will conduct internal audits for the university and the Auxiliary Corporations including the California State University, Fresno Foundation, the Association, the Agriculture Foundation, the Athletic Corporation and Programs for Children, and Associated Students.

He will make recommendations regarding improvement in systems, controls, procedures and other corrective actions, and conduct investigations of fiscal irregularities and misconduct. He will also serve as campus liaison for audits conducted by the Chancellor’s Office and outside agencies.
