Students for Community Service, which coordinated the Kids Day 2005 effort at Fresno State, announced that the campus community raised just over $22,000 for Children's Hospital Central California.  That amount is a percent 16 percent increase from the campus’ 2004 total.

Chris Fiorentino, director of Civic Engagement and Students for Community Service, said hundreds of students from more than 45 clubs, organizations and athletic teams came together to raise funds for children's health care.

“This event is a great example of the entire campus contributing to a wonderful cause,” said Fiorentino. “Special congratulations go to our winning teams Sigma Nu Fraternity (collecting $2,229), Jumpstart Fresno ($1,948), Phi Mu Sorority ($1,651) and Lambda Alpha Epsilon ($856).  Recognition also goes to the university athletic teams, under the direction of Kelly Paramo, who combined to raise $1,549.”

Fiorentino recognized the work of staff members Trisha Studt and Stephanie Callison, along with student coordinators Meggie Fagundes from athletics, Molly Fagundes, Melissa Dittmar, Jennifer Gibbons, and Kim Pananch from the Smittcamp Family Honors College.

He also thanked the Kennel Bookstore for donating $200 in gift certificates for the winning teams, the Collegian for running ads which helped recruit volunteers and John's New England Pizza and Pasta for providing a pizza party for the top selling organization.
