Health policy leadership program

April 13 is the application deadline for the Health Policy Leadership Development Program, a one-of-a-kind leadership program that focuses on the knowledge, competencies and relationship networks required to improve health policies and programs in the San Joaquin Valley. The program builds on the best of existing leadership development programs and is tailored specifically to those individuals who are committed to improving health in the Valley.

Participants will learn about the major health and health-care challenges facing the nation, such as ensuring access to high quality and affordable health services for all residents, reducing health care disparities based on race/ethnicity, gender, and rural or inner-city residence, and improving the integration of primary care and specialized services for elders and persons with disabilities. Participants will also learn cutting-edge approaches to health policy analysis and explore regional opportunities for improving the health of our communities.

The Health Policy Leadership Development Program includes:

  • Ten one-day sessions, beginning on May 13, 2005. Each session will combine presentations of data and discussions of theory, methods, and practice by program faculty as well as opportunities to interact with regional healthcare, public health, and public policy leaders.
  • Participation in a small group project and preparation of individual project report. Small group projects and individual reports may focus on priority issues for the CVHPI such as meeting the needs of uninsured, improving the supply of health professionals, and addressing environmental health concerns.
