Coleman Fellowships

The Coleman Foundation (www.colemanfoundation.org ) and the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship have announced opportunities for Fresno State faculty to apply for Coleman Fellowships for the 2005-06 academic year.

Coleman Fellowships offer a two-semester stipend to faculty to support their development of curricula that incorporates entrepreneurship into an existing course or for the creation of a new course in their academic discipline. Of particular interest are proposals that seek to develop curricula in non-traditional areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. For example, applications of entrepreneurship in the arts; English literature; physics; education, psychology, etc.

Faculty may submit proposals that seek to incorporate concepts and material related to entrepreneurship in courses currently taught or may elect to propose a new course. Awards will go to proposals that clearly demonstrate how entrepreneurship can be integrated into a discipline and provide relevant learning to students in the discipline as well as attract students majoring in entrepreneurship in the Craig School of Business.

Three or four Coleman Fellowship awards to be made in the 2005-06 academic year. Stipends are $5,000 for the year, with a $2,500 allocation made each semester. In addition, awardees will be required to attend the Experiential Classroom workshop held in Syracuse, New York September 12-15, 2005           ( www.whitman.syr.edu/eee/falcone/classroom/) and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship held in Tucson, Arizona January 12-15, 2006 (www.usasbe.org). Expenses for both the workshop and conference will be fully covered.

The awardees will be expected to develop the course during Fall 2005 with delivery of the course in Spring 2006.

Deadline for applications is June 30, with announcements of awards by July 15, 2005. The application should include the following information:

  • Description of the proposed course, restricted to 250 words or less;
  • List of learning objectives for the course;
  • Statement on how the course will be sustained as an offering beyond Spring 2006;
  • Three-page CV;
  • Letter of support from your department chair or dean.

All proposals and inquiries should be sent to: Timothy M. Stearns at timothys@csufresno.edu. For more information call 347-6834.
