TII update

The replacement of the Ethernet backbone has progressed on schedule and is now more than 50 percent complete.  The contractor has installed 27 of the 46 underground telecom vaults in areas along Barstow, Campus, San Ramon, San Bruno, Keats, Barton and Maple avenues and has already dug more than 12,000 feet of trenches around the campus.  Work is currently progressing east on Barstow Avenue.

Excavation is in progress at the sites of the three main distribution facilities (MDF): MDF-A at Barstow and Jackson in the IT yard; MDF-B between Science II and the Crime Lab; and MDF-C on the east side of Bulldog Stadium. These buildings are where the underground cables converge and are connected to the new electronics (switches and routers).  The MDF buildings will also house a future phone system and a future data center.

The replacement of copper and fiber cables within the 61 state-owned buildings and renovation of the communication rooms within these buildings is somewhat behind schedule, but is beginning to pick up speed as the pilot building, Family and Food Science comes to a conclusion.
