This page is dedicated to the Jumpstart Corps members! I intend for this to be a weekly update for all of you, informing you about the many things taking place in Jumpstart.  While this is primarily a way for us to inform all of you, I encourage all of you to send in information you would like to share with your fellow Jumpstart CMs, including ideas for activities to use in the classroom, a funny story about working with your child, or any other inspirational words you want to share.  And if you have any suggestions about how to improve this page, please let us know.  We want to know what's going to be the most helpful for all of you.

Leadership Corps

It has been a long time coming this year, but we would like to officially announce the launch of Leadership Corps for the 2006-07 year!

In case you're unsure of what exactly Leadership Corps is, allow me to explain. Leadership Corps is a select group of Jumpstart Corps members that are interested in taking a leadership role in helping to plan two of our biggest events of the year: Jumpstart-for-a-Day and the Jumpstart Year-end Celebration. Also, Leadership Corps is a great way to collect a few more hours, if you're in need of hours.

In planning for Jumpstart-for-a-Day (JFAD), Leadership Corps members will be key in making sure all team members have an equal share of responsibility in planning their JFAD event, and Leadership Corps members will also be important in maintaining communication between all teams at each preschool partner (for example, the Leadership Corps member from a Kings Canyon team will make sure ALL three KC teams are informed about what is being planned). The Team Leaders should be able to rely on their Leadership Corps member to help ensure JFAD is a high-quality event for the children at our sites.

Year-end Celebration, which takes place in early May, is always an exciting event and a chance to honor all the hard work that you do throughout the year. Leadership Corps is especially important in planning this event. Leadership Corps members will be working with Jumpstart staff to plan all of the details for the event (location, decorations, etc.).

Also, select Leadership Corps members will have the opportunity to attend the Idealist Campus Conference (known formerly as the COOL Conference). This is the largest gathering in the United States for college students who want to change the world. Approximately 1,500 university students and administrators - as well as staff from over 100 local, national, and international nonprofit organizations - gather for a weekend of inspiration, education, and fun. This year's conference will take place March 23-25, 2007, at DePaul University in Chicago, IL.

We are looking for 7-8 tutors that will help us with these events. If you're interested in helping out, please fill out the attached application, and e-mail it to Neil at ndion@csufresno.edu. Applications must be received by Friday, January 19.  Below is a link to download the application.
