JUMPSTART-FOR-A-DAY!
Every year, Jumpstart programs across the nation hold an annual event called Jumpstart-for-a-Day (JFAD). This past year, Jumpstart Fresno held it's first JFAD in conjunction with Family Fest, an annual event of the Huggins Early Education Center at CSUF (Fresno State). JFAD is a one-day learning fair for Jumpstart and other local preschool children and their families. We are excited to announce that JFAD will be held on April 5, 2003! To learn more about JFAD and to see our gallery of pictures from the event click here. We are in the process of recruiting 100 volunteers for this years event. If you would like to volunteer for this event please view the volunteer opportunities flyer and contact the Jumpstart office.

On October 19, 2002, Jumpstart Fresno held the first annual Kicks-for-Kids Soccer Tournament and Read-a-Thon fundraiser at Fresno State. It was a beautiful day where local businesses and university clubs & organization were invited to come out and support literacy in their community by playing in a friendly soccer competition. It was a fun successful event where raffle tickets and refreshments were sold to raise funds to help support and expand Jumpstart’s efforts to prepare children in Fresno for school success.

The team that took away first prize along with a trophy (generously provided by The Engraving Co.) and a pizza party (donated by John’s New England Pizza & Pasta—Thanks!) was Team Bank of America! Congratulations to them for coming out and showing their support for literacy!
If anyone would like to help contribute, we are still selling “Kicks for Kids” t-shirts for only $8.00! (Adult sizes M-XL only)
BARNES & NOBLE !

On October 23, 2002, Barnes & Noble’s Community Relations Manager, Mark Halvorsen, visited Jumpstart site The Joyce M. Huggins Early Education center at Fresno State with Wild Thing from Maurice Sendak’s classic book Where the Wild Things Are . He came in and read two stories to the children and Wild Thing posed with the children for pictures they were able to keep. The children had a great time and really enjoyed the reading.
This is the first venture of the newly formed community partnership between Jumpstart Fresno and Barnes & Noble. We hope to continue Barnes & Noble’s involvement in the Jumpstart program through many other activities and events. After the holiday season settles down you will be seeing a10/10/2006ce including more visits to all of our Jumpstart sites with more storybook readings and characters!
KID'S DAY 2002

Jumpstart Fresno is very active in the community and volunteers it's Corps members to help out during community service days. In March of 2002, Jumpstart teamed up with the Students for Community Service Department at Fresno State and spent all day in the streets of Fresno selling over 1,200 Fresno Bee newspapers (donated) to benefit the Central Valley Children's Hospital. We look forward to continuing our service to the community by teaming up again in 2003 and surpassing our record!

Year-End Celebration!
