Mark Arax Noted author and journalist for the LA Times, Mark Arax will read from his new book, The King of California, telling the epic story of the San Joaquin Valley's largest lake and how its four rivers were captured to create an agricultural miracle. Mark will also read an essay from a new anthology My California: Journeys By Great Writers.Listen online...

Gerald Haslam A native of Kern County, and one of California's most acclaimed writers, much of Gerald Haslam's work celebrates California's rural and small town areas and its poor and working class people of all colors. Jean Janzen Nationally acclaimed as a poet, longtime Valley resident and recently retired Fresno Pacific professor, Jean Janzen will read from her two most recent collections of poetry, Tasting the Dust, and Piano in the Vineyard. Gary Soto Born and raised in Fresno, Gary Soto is the author of more than thirty books, and has a nationwide following as an author for young adults. Gary will read several short stories, including a selection from Fearless Fernie.Listen online...  

Mas Masumoto A third generation Valley farmer, Mas Masumoto will read from his newly released book, Letters to the Valley, A Harvest of Memories. This book is a collection of Masumoto's Fresno Bee columns, a series of personal letters capturing the flavors and sounds, the places and people of our Valley.Listen online...

KFSR's interviews with Respite by the River Authors - listen online!

In support of the Respite By the River events, this summer, KFSR is featuring interviews with a Valley authors selected to read their works at the River Center. These in depth interviews provide an insight into the lives of the authors, and in most cases feature readings from their works as well. 

Cathy Rehart - Featured on Campus and Community 06/13/04

This week our guest is local historian and author Cathy Rehart, author of the Valley's Legends and Legacies. We'll talk about Cathy's research, about the importance of study the history of the Valley, and what it can tell us about the city and county we live in today. We'll also hear an except from one of Cathy's books from a reading recorded at the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies as part of the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust's new monthly "Respite By the River" series.

Mark Arax - Featured on All Things Armenian

Join KFSR's Barlow Der Mugrdechian for an interview with Valley native Mark Arax. Arax is the San Joaquin Valley correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, and the author of the new book "The King of California: J.G. Boswell and the Making of a Secret American Empire". We'll talk about this new book, his family, his Armenian heritage and much more.

We'll find out about Gerald's life, as well as his views about the place that we call home.

Jean Janzen - Featured on Campus and Community 08-08-04

This week our guest on Campus and Community is Jean Janzen, an acclaimed San Joaquin Valley poet, Fresno State graduate and a recently retired professor from Fresno Pacific University. Her works include the newly published collection of poems, Piano in the Vineyard and Tasting the Dust, both of which reflect on California landscapes. We'll find out more about Jean's life and her work in our interview, as well as hear a few selections from her poetry collections.

A graduate of Fresno State, Gary is an internationally renowned author and Fresno native, and many of his poems, short stories, novels  taken place in the Valley. We'll talk about his early years in the Valley, and his time at Fresno State, his body of work, and much more.

Mas Masumoto - Featured on Campus and Community 10-10-04

This week our guest is noted Valley author and farmer David Mas Masumoto. His new book, Letters from the Valley: A Harvest of Memories is a collection of essays capturing the life and spirit of a farming valley, her people and places, written from the point of view of a native son and a father. We'll talk about his career as both a writer and a farmer, and his upcoming appearance at the San Joaquin River Parkway's Respite by the River event.
