Jim Tucker to leave Valley Press - September 2008
|
Valley Public Television is announcing the resignation of veteran, 19-year Valley Press Host Jim Tucker. Mr. Tucker planned, prepared, wrote, scheduled and hosted this 30-minute, high-intensity weekly program. He lent his credibility, journalistic integrity and understanding of issues in the news helping to make Valley Press one of KVPT's signature programs for Valley viewers. The program has also aired on 90.7 KFSR for the past several years. Since 1989 over 1500 guests have appeared on the 675 programs aired. Mr. Tucker is also professor emeritus of journalism at California State University, Fresno. A retrospective program celebrating Mr. Tucker's 19 years on Valley Press will air on KVPT Friday, September 5 at 7:30 PM, and on 90.7 KFSR Saturday September 6th at 1:00 PM and Sunday September 7th at 11:00 AM.

For 19 years, Valley Press brought local newsmakers and journalists to the airwaves for discussions about local news events and topics. Hosted by noted San Joaquin Valley journalist Jim Tucker, Valley Press was produced by Valley Public Television, and also aired for several years 90.7 KFSR. It ceased production in September of 2008.

Valley Press was created by Valley Public Television in 1989 as a "local meet the press" public affairs program. Its purpose is to respond to current issues, news makers and politicians on a weekly basis. Over 450 shows have been produced. Valley Press brings valley viewers a weekly array of news makers and reporters discussing the top news story of the week. Guests have included California legislators, members of Congress, the Governor of California, the state's treasurer, the vice president of the United States, and a member of the British House of Lords.

Jim Tucker has been practicing the fine art of moderating between reporters and news makers from local to national prominence on Valley Press for over 19 years. In addition, Tucker produces and moderates political debates and local specials. A member of the Fresno State journalism faculty since 1968, his areas of expertise include media writing, news reporting, editing, mass media and society, and broadcast news. Tucker has worked as a newspaper reporter, radio newsman, announcer, and magazine editor. |
