Rehabilitation Counseling Clinic FAQs

How much does it cost?

Clients will pay $10.00 per session, but fee waivers are available.  Low-income clients will receive free counseling services.

Who are the counselors and what is their training?

Your counselor will be an advanced student in Fresno State’s accredited and nationally ranked master’s degree program in rehabilitation counseling.  Rehabilitation counselors have strong counseling skills plus special expertise in career development and health- and disability-related issues.

Your counselor will provide services under close faculty supervision.  The supervisor, Priscilla Guest, has several years experience as an instructor, supervisor, and clinic coordinator in Fresno State’s Department of Counseling, Special Education and Rehabilitation.

When and where are the sessions held?

Clients can see a counselor-in-training once a week for about an hour.  Sessions take place in a special suite of counseling rooms at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, located at 5005 N. Maple Ave. on the Fresno State campus.  The building is fully accessible to people with disabilities.

The counseling center offers services at specific times several days a week.  Session days and times are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. You may see a counselor for up to 12 sessions, or you may stop counseling at any time you choose.

Are my sessions kept private?

What you say during your counseling sessions will be confidential.  Since our counselors are in training, the instructor and your counselor’s peer supervisors may observe or record your sessions.  This helps counselors develop their counseling skills.  No one else will observe your sessions.

After your last session, your counselor will erase all recordings in order to protect your confidentiality.  Your counselor will explain these procedures to you more fully before you begin your sessions.

Are bilingual services available?

Some of our counselors speak Spanish, Hmong, or another language.  Let us know your needs when you schedule a session.
