The Madden Library has long recognized its role in education at the University. In addition to selecting, collecting and organizing library materials, the Library offers a range of services to teach people how to identify, find, evaluate and use information effectively.

In addition to professional guidance at the Reference Desk, the Library offers workshops, course-related instruction, and one-on-one guidance for all students and faculty.

  • Library Tours have been suspended during the transition phase of the Library Expansion Project, but we still encourage students and visitors to explore this wonderful campus resource. Because of limitations in services, access to collections, and space, visit us online, and then individually or in very small groups.

  • Online workshops to help students learn basic research skills are available to all students through Blackboard. In addition, workshops on searching specific databases or using specific applications are are offered throughout the semester. Check the classes scheduled calendar for details.

  • Course-related instruction is intended for upper level students as a way to introduce them to the literature of their major. For example, CRIM170- Research Methods in Criminal Justice, is an ideal course for students to learn the specific resources, journals, reference materials and Web sites useful for both scholarly and professional research. Faculty interested in scheduling library instruction or discussing other methods of integrating information literacy into their classes can contact the Library Instruction Office (559) 278-2230 or the appropriate Library Liaison to request a class.
