What is Library Instruction?
Library Instruction enhances student learning in all disciplines by promoting information literacy through Library Tutorials available through Blackboard and through course-related instructional sessions. A student is considered to be "information literate" when the student can recognize when information is needed and has the skills to locate, evaluate, use and cite the information effectively.
Online Library Tutorials
Two tutorials, Finding Articles and Finding Books, are available in Blackboard and give an overview of library services as well as teach students how to search both the online catalog and electronic databases. The workshops are located in the Links box of Blackboard, which is the first screen students see when logging in. These workshops are available for all students with access to Blackboard and include a certificate of completion that can be turned into their instructor.
If you are teaching Communication 3, 4, 5, 7, 8; Criminology 1; English 5A, 5B, 10; or a Lower-Division Course needing a basic Library orientation, your students will be receiving instruction through these tutorials.

Course Related Instruction
If you are teaching a California State University, Fresno, course that has a specific research component you may schedule a library instruction session. Course-related instruction is most effective for classes that require a research assignment. The Library has a smart classroom that can seat up to 28 students or a librarian can visit your class to make a presentation. Fill out the request form to schedule a class
In Addition, Individuals May Receive Instruction by:
Visiting the Reference Desk.
Our Reference Desk is staffed by librarians who will help teach our library users how to search and access information. Our goal is to help them become as independent as possible.
Instant Messaging the Reference Librarian.
You may IM the Reference Desk and talk with a librarian in real time from the comfort of your home or office. Simply go to: IM the Reference Desk Now!
Contacting your librarian. You may make an appointment for an in-depth consultation either individually or with your group. Each academic school has a librarian(s) who is the liaison to the departments in that school.
