Each week, all participants who completed the week’s tasks will be entered into a drawing for an additional prize.

Presented by the Henry Madden Library, California State University, Fresno, and the Fresno County Public Library through a Fresno Regional Foundation grant, "Honoring the Japanese American Experience in the San Joaquin Valley."

Julie Moore, librarian in the Technical Services Department of the Henry Madden Library, is the 2010 winner of the Nancy B. Olson Award. This award recognizes a librarian who has made significant contributions to the advancement and understanding of audiovisual cataloging. As the plaque honoring Julie states, she was selected for significant and diverse contributions to audiovisual cataloging and catalogers at the local, state, and national levels over more than twenty years.

Everyone who was a student this spring will be able to check out books, videos, CDs, and other library materials over the summer. Just remember to bring your campus ID card. So take a break, read a book, listen to some music, or watch a video -- with help from the Henry Madden Library.

Amanda Tang, a junior nursing major who confesses she “lives” in the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, is the new building’s millionth visitor. Tang was honored as she walked through the front door just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 17. You are invited to the Opening Reception of the Library’s new exhibit: Touching the Soul: The Architecture of Art Dyson, where internationally acclaimed and locally based architect Dyson will display his concepts, drawings, and models of his most famous works.

On the second floor of the brand-new Henry Madden Library is a Starbucks cafe where students can come in, get their favorite beverage, and enjoy everything the new building has to offer.

Did you know that the web site of the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature (www.arnenixoncenter.org) features 20 pieces of original art created and donated for the site by the award-winning, London-based author/illustrator Aliki?

Did you know that the Library has the strongest wireless network on campus? The new building was built to provide the most robust and sophisticated wireless possible.

Did you know that the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature (3rd floor south) is one of about ten such collections in the country and the only one west of the Mississippi? It began with a donation of 22,000 books from the late Professor Arne Nixon. When he died, he left the Library a generous bequest to establish the Center.

Vita Christi is the oldest book in the Library. It was printed in 1474 in a Carthusian monastery. Titled Vita Christi [Life of Christ], it is called an incunabulum as all books printed with movable type prior to 1501 are considered incunabula. This book is housed in the Special Collections Research Center.

Did you know that the Madden Library has more maps and aerial photographs than any other CSU campus? Whether you are interested in the geology of Fresno or of Mars, the D-Day landing or the Civil War, the history of Armenia or wine regions of Australia, our maps and atlas collection has something for you.

The Henry Madden Library at Fresno State invites you to to visit its inaugural exhibit: The Pursuit of Beauty: California Indian Basketry and Art of Ansel Adams.

Our magnificent new library stands as a testament to the ideals of academic excellence at Fresno State. In the heart of our lovely campus, there's now an architectural wonder with eight acres of new stacks, service points, gallery spaces, technology labs, group study rooms . . .
