We buy materials for all international fairs held between 1851 and 1940 (see list of fairs on this site), mostly paper documents with research value although on occasion we also buy souvenirs and other objects for display purposes. If you would like to offer us something for purchase, please include as detailed a description of the item(s) as possible, a photocopy of the title page or photograph(s) of the item(s), a phone number, and an address and/or e-mail address where we can reach you. Please be sure to include your asking price. We cannot provide monetary appraisals for people nor can we offer an amount for an item ourselves (it would be a conflict of interest). If you are an amateur seller and need assistance in placing a value on the item(s) for sale, try contacting either an antique or book dealer in your area. Or, you could try a dealer in the city in which that particular fair was held. If you need help identifying a dealer and you have access to the internet, you might try an online directory of booksellers from the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America. If that doesnt work, try Bibliofind, a service that allows you to search for a particular book to see what a dealer is asking for it. If we decide to purchase the item(s), there is a form you will need to complete and return to us. If you are from the United States, in order to process payment, the state of California requires that you fill out a Vendor Data Record. If you are from another country, please fill out the Certificate of Foreign Status (W-8). You can print out the appropriate form provided here and mail it to us. Note that you only have to fill out the form once, not each time we purchase from you. If you would send the item(s) with an invoice, we will then start the payment process. If you do not have your own business letterhead or invoice, feel free to use our standard invoice. Send everything to:
Please be aware that it takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to receive payment from the state. If you do not receive payment within this time, please feel free to call either Jean Coffey or Tammy Lau at (559) 278-2595. |
