  • What is the Mentoring Institute?
    The Mentoring Institute is a unique experience that offers first-year students the opportunity to interact one-on-one with a faculty or staff member or eligible student outside the traditional classroom or office setting.
  • What is a mentor?
    A mentor is someone who provides guidance, friendship, and support and serves as a role model to students.
  • Why do I need a mentor?
    A mentor provides personal attention, help, advice, information and encouragement to help you get the most out of your college experience.
  • What are the requirements to be a student mentee?
    The program requires that you are a first-year student enrolled at the university and not participating in other campus advising/mentoring programs.
  • Where do I get an application?
    Applications are available at this link or by calling the office at 278-4468.
  • How will I know who my mentor is?
    You will receive a packet with your mentor's name, contact information and a brief autobiography within a few weeks of submitting your application.
  • How do I contact my mentor?
    The packet you receive contains your mentor's office location, telephone number and email address.  You can contact your mentor for an appointment in person, by phone or email for a time that is convenient to both of you.
  • What do I talk with my mentor about?
    You can talk to your mentor about your academic and personal concerns.  And ask your mentor about his or her college experience!
  • What is my responsibility as a student mentee?
    You are responsible for scheduling and attending meetings with your mentor a minimum of 4 times during your first semester.
  • Who are the mentors at CSU, Fresno?
    Mentors are faculty and staff and academically successful students who volunteer their time and make an effort to support, challenge and encourage their student mentee (you!). The current mentor listing is at this link.
