What is a Mentor?

Mentor and MenteeAt California State University, Fresno, a Mentor is either a faculty, staff or academically successful student who volunteers his or her time to meet with a first-year student. A Mentor is someone who provides guidance, friendship and support and serves as a role model to students. A Mentor gives personal attention, help, advice, information and encouragement and provides students with the essential tools needed to graduate from college and pursue graduate work. Mentors come from a wide range of academic disciplines, including the eight colleges and schools and the various campus student support organizations and programs.
