Welcome
The Physical Therapy Department offers 3 degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, a Master of Physical Therapy and a joint Doctorate of Physical Therapy with University of California, San Francisco. A minor is also available.
The Bachelor’s degree offers a pre-health career major for students preparing to apply to graduate programs for profession education. At present the degree offers specific options for pre-Occupational Therapy, pre-Physical Therapy, and pre-Public Health. This degree may also be appropriate for students preparing to study other health careers such as Chiropractic and Prosthetics/Orthotics.
The Master’s degree prepares students to be eligible for licensing examination in all 50 states. The Physical Therapy Department has offered first-professional education in physical therapy since 1975 and is proud of its reputation for excellence throughout the professional community.
The Doctorate degree is the new educational standard for the field. At Fresno State, the DPT is a joint program with the University of California, San Francisco and is designed to expand the foundation of knowledge developed in the Masters of Physical Therapy Program and better prepare graduates to function autonomously in current and future healthcare environments. This final year of learning is dynamic and interactive with a strong evidence-based approach. Learning activities are centered on active student involvement through seminars, case studies, clinical investigations, grand rounds, and patient care.
The minor in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Sciences may be of interest to students pursuing career paths in other health and human service professions.
