Plan for Excellence Background In 1993, the university adopted the Plan for the 90s as its new strategic plan. In 1996-97, nine university task forces led a campus wide review of the Plan for the 90s in light of new challenges and opportunities facing the university. In May 1997, a campus wide roundtable discussion was held with over 200 faculty, staff and community members participating in the development of an updated strategic plan. Following 18 months of discussion and debate, in December 1997, the Academic Senate endorsed the strategic goals and the new strategic planVision for the 21st Century: A Plan for Excellence. In the spring of 1998, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee developed a university wide implementation plan, with timelines and assignment of responsibility for each of the plans goals. In the fall of 1998, the university moved forward with the first year of implementation of the new strategic plan goals. In January 1999, the first Milestone Reports were prepared by each division of the university and reviewed by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. The 1999-2000 academic year marked the second year of implementation of the plans goals. In January 2000, the second Milestone Reports were submitted. During the 2000-01 academic year, the campus wide community will participate in a thorough review of the Plan for Excellence and update of the universitys strategic goals. |
