Task forces met throughout the 1996-97 academic year and developed strategic goals in each of the task forces' areas of implementation.  In May of 1997, over 200 faculty, staff, administrators and community members met in a campus wide discussion to identify the major goals which would shape the university's new strategic plan -- "Vision for the 21st Century: A Plan for Excellence."  The major goals developed by the steering committee, task force members, and university wide participants were endorsed by the Academic Senate and the administration in December 1997.  Members of the university community have been working hard together over the past two years to accomplish the sixteen major goals identified.
