Escort ProgramUpon request, radio-equipped, uniformed and trained escort officers will accompany persons to their destinations on campus. To arrange for an escort officer, call 278-8400. Emergency phones, located in parking lots, buildings, and grounds, may be used for this purpose. Courtyard Safety ProgramThe program is staffed by a dorm officer and five Public Safety Assistants dedicated to the safety of on-campus residents. Services include the Residential Advisors Training Program, Drug and Alcohol Use Awareness Program, Operation Identification ( for property), crime prevention, and the Rape Awareness Program. Madden Library Security ProgramThe Madden Library is assigned two Public Safety Assistants on foot patrol to increase the safety and security within the building. They also serve as Escort Officers for library patrons requesting such services to their vehicles or to the dormitories. Directed PatrolSpecial attention is directed towards the patrol of the Education Building, Madden Library, University Student Union, University Courtyard, athletic facilities and events, and Smittcamp Alumni House, as well as any campus activity generating a large number of participants. Lighting and Landscape Safety ProgramIn partnership with Plant Operations, campus lighting and landscaping is monitored to maintain campus safety. Operation IdentificationOperation Identification is a public service program offered to on-campus residents at their request. A dormitory officer is dispatched to the student's room to etch the student's driver license number on personal belongings of the student's choice. There is no charge for this service. The etching tools are also available to students who wish to perform this task themselves. An inventory of the marked items and serial numbers is given to the owner as a deterrent to burglaries and as an aid to recovery in the event of a theft Bicycle Safety ProgramThe U-bar (Kryptonite) type of bicycle locks are recommended as theft
deterrents. Bicycle locks can be rented for $ 15 per semester. Students
residing in the residence halls may also rent the bike locks from
the resident hall main office. Upon return of each lock, $10 will
be refunded. Bikes can be licensed at the University Police
Department or Parking and Alternative Transportation. Licensing
bicycles aids in their recovery, should they become lost or stolen.
Bike licensing is strongly encouraged! Found bikes that are unclaimed
are sold at auction.
Emergency Telephone SystemEmergency phones are located in parking lots, buildings and grounds. Phones are yellow or are clearly marked with blue lights. Emergency phones are wired directly to the University Police Department for immediate response by police officers. Simply press the button and a police dispatcher will answer the call. Fraternity Liaison ProgramOfficers maintain contact with fraternity members, the Greek Affairs Office, and the Fresno Police Department. They will train fraternity members on topics such as rape awareness, drug and alcohol abuse, and other issues. Criminal activities of student organizations are monitored and reported to the Judicial Affairs.. Call 278-2132 for more information. University Parking PolicyA parking permit is required to park on campus. California State laws and University regulations pertaining to parking are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The University oversees a parking enforcement program to facilitate the proper use of on-campus parking. In order to achieve this goal, University and State regulations are applied to govern the use and misuse of parking facilities. Enforcement of these regulations occurs through a citation process.
