TERMS COMMONLY USED
Below are definitions of some terms that appear throughout the
Campus Portfolio website:
Accreditation
A process that aids institutions in developing and sustaining
effective educational programs and assures the educational community,
the
general public,
and other organizations that the accredited institution has met
high standards of quality and effectiveness.
Accreditation Standards
The basic standards against which the university is measured in
evaluating its acceptance of the core commitments. There are
four, each expanded by a number of Criteria
for Review (CFR).
Campus Portfolio
A collection of documents to be submitted as evidence that
the needs have been met for reaccreditation of the University
by the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Capacity, institutional capacity
The full range of qualities necessary for an educational institution
to function successfully. The Criteria
for Review (CFR) is a detailed list of these capacities.
Core Commitments
The commitments upon which the institution will be evaluated for
reaccreditation. There are two—one will serve
as a foundation for the Preparatory
Review Analytical Essay and
the other for the Educational
Effectiveness Review Essay.
Criteria for Review (CFR)
A list of capacities against which the University
will be assessed as part of reaccreditation. They are part of
the standards against which the university is measured.
Educational
Effectiveness Review
The second report, based on the second core
commitment, which will
document success in using the capacities to educate students
in appropriate
areas
and levels.
Exemplars
Programs, activities, or events representing ideal or typical models
or examples to support the thematic essays. See

Strategic Planning
The process whereby an institution supports its vision, and achieves
and implements its goals. See the Plan for the 21st Century:
Plan for Excellence II.
Institutional
Context, Institutional Capacity
An introduction to the University, its organization, its community,
and its governance, and an analytical and reflective response
to standards/CFR. Part of the Preparatory
Review Essay.
Evidentiary Sources
Data resources that support the conclusions reached in the essays.

Preparatory
Review
The first analytical and thematic report, based on the first core
commitment,
which will assess California State University, Fresno in terms
of the
capacities
listed in
the Standards
and Criteria for Review (CFR).
