Application to the University

In order to apply to the Psychology department graduate programs, students must apply directly to the University Graduate Admissions office. Apply online at CSUMentor, an external site handling University applications.

Students will be required to:

  1. Fill out the online application
  2. Supply transcripts as requested
  3. Supply GRE and CBEST scores as requested
  4. Pay a processing fee ($55)

Any delay in the receipt of the required documents will result in the holding back of your application.

Additional Program Application Requirements

The Psychology department's requirements for admission are higher than those for the University. Acceptance to the University does not guarantee acceptance to the Psychology department graduate programs.

After completing the general University application and paying the $55 processing fee, Psychology applicants must complete a separate Program Application. Students will be required to:

  1. Download and complete the Department of Psychology's Program Application form (Word or PDF). On the form, students will:
    1. List three potential psychology faculty mentors. Potential graduate mentors, and their research interests, are listed in this document.
    2. Submit one (M.A.) or two (Ed.S.) 3-page double-spaced essays
    3. The program application and essay(s) can be emailed as an attachment to Liliana Oceguera
  2. Submit three letters of recommendation (letters will be sent directly to the Psychology department). Obtain the PDF recommendation form here.
  3. Submit a completed Application Affidavit (to be sent directly to the Psychology department).
  4. Ed.S. applicants only: Submit a completed medical clearance form (to be sent directly to the Psychology department).
  5. Ed.S. applicants only: Submit a completed verification of no criminal record (to be sent directly to the Psychology department).

Complete application packages are screened by the Psychology Graduate Committee. Seclected applicants are invited to participate in either personal or telephone interviews before final selection of candidates is complete. Interviews are held on campus, or by telephone if an on-campus interview is not convenient for candidates. Selected applicants will be interviewed by at least two faculty members approximately one month after materials are reviewed by the Psychology Graduate Committee.
