What is the policy on late submissions?

Assignments are due at 11:59 p.m. PST on the dates listed on the Due Dates page. The maximum grade you can obtain on an assignment will decrease by 15% every 24 hours thereafter. In other words, if you turn in your assignment some time between 11:59 p.m. on the due date and 11:59 p.m. on the following day, the maximum grade for the assignment that you can get is 85%. If the assignment is two days late, the maximum score is 70%. If the assignment is three days late, the maximum score is 55%. NO CREDIT OR FEEDBACK WILL BE GIVEN FOR ASSIGNMENTS TURNED IN MORE THAN THREE DAYS LATE.

What should I do if I need an extension on an assignment?

NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED ON ANY ASSIGNMENTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Due to the volume of papers that need to be graded, and due to the strict timeline for grading those papers, we cannot allow papers to be turned in late.

What should I do if I know in advance that I will not be able to turn in an assignment on the due date?

You may submit your assignment early on turnitin.com. Submissions after the due date lose credit at 15% per day.

When can I expect my graded Rough Draft back?

In general, you can expect the graded rough draft of any assignment to be returned to you in one week. Because all the due dates for all the assignments are on Mondays, this means you can expect your rough draft back on the Monday following its due date.

I haven't heard anything about my group assignment! What should I do?

There are a number of reasons you might not have heard from us yet. Please check the following list to see if any of these situations apply to you:

  • Did you register for the class recently? We update the rosters once a week, so you may not be in the system yet. Generally, we update the rosters every Friday for the first few weeks of the semester, so check your email again on a Saturday or Sunday.
  • Is your email account full? Many times, if you haven't checked your csufresno.edu email account in a while, we can't send email messages to your account, because it is full. Please check your account and make sure that it can receive messages. See this question for more information on clearing your inbox.
  • Are you registered for the class? Make sure that you are enrolled in the class by checking your class schedule at my.csufresno.edu. If you are not registered, make sure you register as soon as possible.
  • Does your email account have spam filtering? It is possible that the emails sent to your account were filtered by a spam filter. If this is the case, you'll need to look into allowing emails from the psy10reader@cvip.net address to pass through. See the instructions for your spam filter or email provider for details on how to do this.

If you've checked all these questions and you still have not received an email from us within one week of registering for the class (or within one week of the first day of class), write us an email at psy10reader@cvip.net to let us know. Please include your name, section number for PSYCH 10, and the date you registered for the class.

My email account is "over quota". What does that mean and what should I do about it?

When your email account is over quota, it means that your stored messages are taking up too much space in your email account, and you can not receive any additional emails, because there is no room. The help desk website has helpful information for you concerning cleaning out your account and freeing up space. You can also contact the help desk at (559) 278-7000 or help@csufresno.edu

My temporary password on Turnitin doesn't work! What should I do?

If you can't get the temporary password that was sent to you to work, try copying and pasting it from the email that was sent to you. Also, make sure that you're not putting a 'zero' in your temporary password where there is supposed to be an "Oh", and vice versa. Finally, sometimes the number one ("1") looks a LOT like a lower-case letter 'el' ("l"). Try switching them around in the password you're using.

If all else fails, try using the "password help" link which is at the top right corner of the www.turnitin.com website. Using this link will send another temporary password to you.

Why did I receive a negative Research Unit credit?

You received a negative Research Unit credit because you signed up to participate in an experiment but did not show up for your appointment. This means that you need to complete an additional Research Unit credit to make up for your missed appointment. See here for more details on Research Units.

What is a Hypothetical Grade?

The specific comments on your Rough Draft will also be accompanied by general comments and a Hypothetical Grade. The Hypothetical Grade you receive on your Rough Draft does not count toward your Overall Writing Assignment Grade! The Hypothetical Grade indicates the grade you would get for the Paper if it were the Final Revision. Keep in mind, however, that you will not receive a Paper Grade if you do not submit a Rough Draft for those Papers that require one.

Click on here to see more information about grading.

I don't like the grade I received on my Final Revision. How do I contest it?

All grade inquiries must be made in person with a PSYCH10 Reader. You can contact us by following the procedures outlined here. Please note, however, that unless we have made an arithmetical error, it is unlikely that your grade will be changed.

I don't understand why I received the grade I received. Who can I contact for more information?

All grade inquiries must be made in person with a PSYCH10 Reader. You can contact us by following the procedures outlined here. We would be happy to outline any changes you can make to your writing to help improve future grades.

Does my Group Assignment mean I have to meet and collaborate with other students in the class?

No. Your Group Assignment only determines your due dates. You should not collaborate with anyone while writing your papers for this assignment.

The site says my instructor is "Reader, P.", but that's not my PSYCH 10 instructor! What should I do?

Turnitin.com lists the instructor for the PSYCH 10 Writing Assignment as "PSYCH10 Reader". This is because students from many different sections of PSYCH10 are all required to participate in the Assignment. Your instructor is listed this way for the purposes of Turnitin.com only. The University Registrar will continue to list your grades under the section taught by your lecture instructor.

I've already taken this class and am taking it again. Can I submit the papers I used last time, or do I need to submit entirely new ones?

Unfortunately, you cannot turn in the same papers for the class this semester. You will need to write entirely new papers for this semester, as though you were taking the class for the first time. This is true for any class you retake at the University. Plagiarism includes using your own paper written for one purpose (one assignment in one class) for another purpose (another assignment in the same or a different class). It is important that you remember to not use papers written in one class as work turned in for another class.

I can't remember my password in EPS! What should I do?

Click here or on the button marked "Experiment Participation" on the left hand side of this page. Near the bottom left of the screen, you see a list of options. One of the options is "Lost your password?". Fill out the form and your password will be emailed to you.

I can't remember my username in EPS! What should I do?

Your username is the same as your username for your csufresno.edu email address. So, if your email is "blah@csufresno.edu", then your username for the Experiment Participation System would be "blah".

How do I register myself in the EPS system?

Every student enrolled in PSYCH10 will automatically be enrolled in the system within one week of registration for the class. If you do not receive an enrollment email within one week of registration, contact the PSYCH10 Coordinator.

I can't see any experiments to sign up for! Is there something wrong?

Sometimes, there are no currently running experiments. This is especially true during the first few weeks of the semester. Try checking again in a week.

Why does my Credit Balance show a Penalty credit?

If you sign up to participate in an experiment and do not cancel in time, or do not show up for that experiment, then the experiment can assign you a penalty credit. Failure to attend an experiment will result in a -1 penalty credit. Tardiness may also result in a -1 penalty credit. If you receive a penalty credit, you will have to complete an additional research unit to reach your total of 5 research units.

I switched the section of PSYCH10 in which I am enrolled. Will my Group Assignment change?

No, your Group Assignment will not change. However, you should send us an email to let us know that you switched. Please include in the email the section number you switched from, and the section number that you switched to.

I never received a temporary password from Turnitin after I received my Group Assignment. What's wrong?

If you receive your Group Assignment, this automatically means turnitin.com knows you are enrolled in Psych10. There are two reasons why you might not have received your temporary password from turnitin.com:

1) You may already have an account at Turnitin.com. If you have ever used Turnitin.com before for another class with your "csufresno.edu" email account, then your account still exists. You can use the password you used previously. If you do not remember it any more, use the 'password help' link near the top right hand corner of the Turnitin.com homepage, and a new temporary password will be sent to you.

2) The email got lost on its way to you (either because your email inbox was full, or your junk mail filter was set to high, etc.) You should obtain a new temporary password by using the 'password help' link near the top right hand corner of the Turnitin.com homepage, and a new temporary password will be sent to you.

When I try to register my name, EPS says my student ID has already been used! But I can't sign up for any experiments. What's wrong?

You may already have an account at EPS, but you have probably never logged in. Find the temporary password sent to you when you rwere egistered for the system and use it to log in under your log in name. If you have forgotten it, request a new one by following the instructions in this FAQ item.

How do I associate my name with a section of PSYCH10?

Your name in EPS must be associated with a section of PSYCH10 so that we can inform the appropriate instructor of your research units. Contact the PSYCH10 Coordinator to make sure your section is listed correctly in the EPS. In your email, MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE CLASS NUMBER YOU ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN.

Turnitin won't accept the file format of my paper! What should I do?

You may have difficulty submitting papers to turnitin that aren't in one of the acceptable formats (MS Word, WordPerfect, PostScript, PDF, HTML, RTF, and plain text). However, most word processors should allow you the option of saving your file as an RTF or TXT file. (Look in the "Save as.." options, or see your word processor's help file for details). Please save your paper in either RTF or TXT format and then submit it that way. Our correspondence back to you will be in PDF format, which requires only the free Adobe Reader software to view.
