Grading of Papers

Grades for Rough Drafts and Final Revisions will be made based on pre-established rubrics. These rubrics are based on University GE recommendations, as well as on the specific requirements of the PSYCH 10 Writing/Research Component. Visit the Rubric page to get an idea of how your paper will be evaluated.

Paper Grades on Rough Drafts and Final Revisions. Your Rough Draft and Final Revision of each Paper will be given a Paper Grade, which enters into the calculation of your Overall Writing/Research Component Grade. Rough Drafts will be evaluated according to the criteria laid out on the Rubrics page, along with consideration of the fact that the paper is a draft. This means that the Readers will consider whether or not your Rough Draft meets the minimal standard of a 'good faith attempt' at writing the paper and will factor this in to your paper grade.

You can substantially improve the grade you get on a Rough Draft by making the changes suggested by the Readers. Please keep in mind that the changes suggested by the Readers are not exhaustive: this means that making all the changes suggested by the Readers does not necessarily mean that you will receive a perfect score as the Paper Grade for a Final Revision. Generally, the Reader will help you to improve your paper's mechanical and compositional elements by pointing out things like grammatical mistakes or portions of the paper prompt that were not addressed in your draft. Final Revisions wil be evaluated according to the criteria laid out on the Rubrics page, along with consideration of the fact that the paper is a final revision. This means that the Readers will consider the level of effort that you have put into revising the draft and will factor this in to your paper grade.

How paper grades are reported to your PSYCH10 instructor

All your Paper Grades will be forwarded to your PSYCH 10 section instructor at the end of the semester, where they will be incorporated into your PSYCH 10 grade as outlined in your syllabus.

The Overall Writing/Research component grade weights Rough Drafts and Final Revisions differently. Rough Drafts are worth 50% of Final Revisions. Please see the Glossary for more information about the Overall Writing/Research component grade that gets sent to your instructor.
