Conference News and Announcements

First Annual Renaissance Award

Dr. Thomas SwitzerDr. Thomas Switzer (photo right), Dean Emeritus, Judith Herb College of Education, University of Toledo, was named the recipient of the First Annual Renaissance Award.

The award was announced by Dr. Barbara Burch, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Western Kentucky University, co-chair of the 20th Anniversary Celebration/2009 Fall Conference and member of the TRG Board of Governors, and by Dr. Michael Giovannetti, Executive Director of The Renaissance Group, during the opening session of the organization’s 2009 Fall Conference in Arlington, Virginia October 4-6.

This newest and most prestigious honor was bestowed upon Dr. Thomas Switzer in absentia due to his inability to attend because of illness.  Dr. Switzer was one of, or perhaps the founding leader of The Renaissance Group in 1989.  He is also the originator of the video-oral histories of the founding and present leaders of TRG, and a significant contributor to the working topics utilized at the conference to address the organization’s “Time of Reflection, Celebration and Rebirth.”

Thank you, Dr. Switzer, for many years of outstanding educational leadership, and for your unconditional support of TRG since its inception.  The award will be presented to Dr. Switzer at the spring conference (April 21-23, 2010), to be hosted by Emporia State University.  Tom, congratulations and best wishes from your friends and colleagues of The Renaissance Group!
