We really depend on you being here! Without you, the student may not have a "special person" for that day. Three unexcused absences may be grounds for dismissal, and excessive tardiness or absences may result in disciplinary action and/or dismissal. If for some reason you cannot be here, please call and let us know so we can try to get a substitute or make arrangements for your student.
We also expect to see you at all meetings. If you are unable to attend any meetings, please call your Site Supervisor or Fresno State contact ahead of time and let him/her know of your intended absence or tardiness. Also, you will be held responsible for any information that you miss, so be sure to make arrangements to obtain any handouts or notes as appropriate.
Tutors are expected to dress in a professional manner in attire that is equivalent to that of others in the teaching profession. The site supervisor will be responsible for determining appropriate dress and may refer tutors to the school's/ District's dress code or provide other appropriate guidance.
All tutors are required to sign a Fresno READS Agreement Form!
Each Site will determine its own sign-in procedure. The Site Supervisor will determine and give instructions on the appropriate sign-in procedure.
Some sites require tutors to wear badges for identification purposes. It is helpful for staff at the site to be able to properly identify Fresno READS tutors.
Tutor's Schedule
Time Sheets, Lesson Plans/Journals, and Pay Vouchers are due on the 27th of every month at Joyal Administration Building, Room 274. Tutors are responsible for getting this material, with all necessary signatures, turned in on time. As determined by the Site Coordinator, teachers and/or the site supervisors are required to sign the Time Sheets and Pay Vouchers. Materials that are incomplete may result in a paycheck that will possibly be up to 3 weeks late. It is also recommended that teachers assist in the preparation and review of the Lesson Plan/Journal.
Fresno READS Time Sheets must be filled out and signed for every session that tutors meet with their tutees. The date, time in, time out, and a signature are required for every session. At the end of every month, the hours should be totaled and turned in with the Financial Aid Work Study Pay Vouchers. To verify the time sheet at the end of the month, a signature is required from the classroom teacher or supervisor with whom the tutor works most closely with. The Site Supervisor will determine who signs this form.
The Financial Aid Work Study Pay Voucher is the form used to process the tutor's paycheck. The tutor is required to fill out the pay voucher in its entirety. Please note:
Fresno READS tutors are expected to keep a daily journal accompanied with a weekly lesson plan. The Journals/Lesson Plans will be used to track the progress of the tutee in the program. The journals are important because they help the tutor to track the student's work, their activities, the outcome of activities, and the student's progress.
The Fresno READS Tutor will supply the teacher with the Pre and Post Teacher Evaluations and is responsible for turning the material into the Fresno READS Coordinator.
Pre-tests should be administered by the teacher at the beginning of the school year. The Pre-Tests will determine the level of the tutee and give the tutor a starting point for tutoring the child. The information must be completely filled out by the student's teacher in order to provide the most accurate data.
Post-tests should be administered at the end of the school year or if the child is permanently no longer part of the Fresno READS program. The pre- and post-tests and journals will reflect the amount of progress the tutee has made in reading throughout the year. The pre- and post-tests offer quantifiable data that can be used to assess the success of the program.
Tutors will be evaluated at the end of each semester. Tutors will be evaluated in the following areas: professionalism, interactive skills, preparedness, tutoring skills, performance appraisal and overall job performance. The Site Coordinator for Fresno READS will deliver the evaluations to the teacher or site supervisor with whom the tutors work most closely with, Tutors will also have the opportunity to evaluate the site and program on a semester basis.
