Mission Statement

The mission of the Science and Mathematics Education Center Teacher Education Program (SMECTEP) is to recruit full-time students from West Hills at Lemoore and Reedley college who are committed to teaching science or math in middle and high school settings. SMECTEP is hopeful that through its efforts, it will improve the science and math teacher shortage within its service area through its recruitment efforts. SMECTEP has a strong commitment in reflecting the demographics among the teacher workforce within the Reedley and Lemoore areas. The program also focuses on supporting lateral entry students who have received a degree and have worked in a profession, but have decided that they would like to teach instead. The goal of SMECTEP is to support, nurture, educate, and credential students who are committed to achieving excellence in their pursuit of a teaching career. In accomplishing its goals, SMECTEP foresees better-prepared teachers who will address the need of our highly diverse student population.
