U.S. Department of Energy"s Preservice Teacher Internship

This program places students (undergraduates, and credential students) in paid internships in Science, Math, and Technology at any of several different locations throughout the nation.  The participants in the program have decided on a teaching career in one of these disciplines.  Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs. Early Field Experience

Students have the opportunity to participate as a volunteer or paid teaching assistant in a middle
or high school science or math classroom so that they can begin to learn the craft of teaching
before they are admitted into the credential program. Student who receive financial
compensation can earn between $10-$12 an hour depending on the financial support that is
available. Eligible students are those who plan to (a) teach science or math and (b) to transfer to

Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences

Earth and Environmental Science Option

The B.A. in Natural Sciences serves as a waiver program for the Single Subject Teaching Credential in earth and environmental science. This degree program is designed for students who wish to become middle school science or high school biology teachers. The College of Science and Mathematics in collaboration with the Kremen School of Education's Credential program provides an accelerated program in which students can complete the degree requirements and the credential requirement simultaneously within 4 years. An academic pathway also exists for those students who would like to complete the course requirements for the B.A. in Natural Sciences only. All students should consult with advisers in the SMEC office. Advisers can be reached at 559.278.5173 for full details. The B.A. Natural Science program consists of two parts, core and depth. The core requirements are courses required of all natural science students and the option provides training in biology, chemistry, earth science, or physics.
