Biographical Sketch

Dr. Kenneth Ryan, California State University - Fresno, Department of Criminology, is a specialist in intelligence theory, international criminal justice, and government management. He serves as Criminology Department Coordinator of International Programs for the College of Social Sciences and is a member of the University of Oxford (UK) Round Table in Criminal Law and Justice. He has presented contemporary research in European criminal intelligence and has been published in international law, terrorism, and public policy by the University of Oxford. Dr. Ryan has addressed the World Terror Conference three times on various topics relating to Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence and has addressed the Counter-Terror Expo in London on International Counter-Terror Intelligence Policy Coordination. Recently he lectured on "American Politics in Intelligence" at Bletchley Park for the University of Buckingham (UK). He also has lectured at the Brunel University (London) Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies in advanced game theory and intelligence policy.

Dr. Ryan, who is the Criminology Department representative to the Smittcamp Honors College, also serves as a member of the Fresno Police Department Chief's Advisory Board. He has been a contributing writer and consultant in criminal justice and national security for US cable television networks The Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery and The Military Channel as well as a featured author in global espionage for the World Politics Review (The World Bank, Paris). And recently Dr. Ryan was a contributing author featured in the IDEBATE Press book Privacy and Surveillance with New Technologies.

Dr. Ryan received his Philosophiæ Doctoris from Washington University in St. Louis in Interdisciplinary Studies in Political Science, where he focused on intelligence theory, political violence, and comparative politics with area studies in Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Ryan’s recent research has focused on the comparative politics of international / transnational intelligence particularly in counter-organized crime and counter-terror. He also has conducted funded research in post-war Iraqi governance and prepared statistical exhibits and models for UN Security Council reports on French-speaking Africa. Dr. Ryan has been published widely in intelligence, criminal justice and law and is a frequent speaker in counter-terror and intelligence in Europe and the United States.
