American Humanics
Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management and Leadership
American Humanics (AH) is a certificate program offering students specialized training in nonprofit management. The AH program works with hundreds of nonprofit agencies in the region to prepare students and community members to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations.
Fresno State is one of 75 colleges and universities throughout the country affiliated with American Humanics, Inc a national organization that collaborates with affiliated college and university programs, professional organizations, and nonprofit agencies. It is involved in recruiting, preparing, and placing students in meaningful professional careers with youth and human service agencies.
Program Details
The interdisciplinary certificate in nonprofit management and leadership requires 19-23 units, including 300 hours of field experience with a nonprofit organization. For more information, see our requirements and our Fall 2007 Course Offerings.
The certificate is open to students of all majors and community individuals. Courses may be taken part-time or through Open University. For more information, please contact Dr. Matthew Jendian.
Mentoring. Each semester, American Humanics students have the opportunity to take part in student mentoring project.

The handbook is designed to guide you through the process of developing a successful internship. The handbook appendices contain the forms that will help you document your internship experience.
Accomplishments, Competency and Employment
Our AH program was recently chosen to be part of a five-campus student recruitment effort because of its student diversity and central California location.
Our AH program has also established a pattern of excellence by regularly winning national and local awards, such as in 2006 and 2007.
The AH program benefits from an excellent AH Advisory Council.
Each year, national service organizations need thousands of new full-time professional staff. Men and women who fill these positions are people-oriented, competent managers, who are committed to improving their communities and the future of our society.
Students involved in the American Humanics (AH) Program at California State University, Fresno pursue degrees in recreation administration and leisure studies, social work, psychology, sociology, health science, business, and other academic areas. All American Humanics students acquire knowledge and skills to demonstrate the following competencies:

Furthermore, all interested students engage in leadership development through activities with the American Humanics Student Association (AHSA), a recognized campus organization for students interested in this career field.
The American Humanics Program has an outstanding record of job placement with several nonprofit organizations for its graduates.
