Scholars Service Grant |
|
The Scholars Service Grant (SSG) program is an opportunity for high academic achieving students to earn a renewable $960 grant by providing service at a university or community site. An invitation is extended to all departments, offices and programs on campus to participate in the SSG program by proposing a service site opportunity for SSG students. A service site may supervise 1 or 2 SSG students each semester. More than one service site may be located in a department, office or program so long as the functions of each service site differ from the other. The $960 grant is paid by the SSG program, so there is no expense to the service site! SSG students complete 60 hours of community service during the semester in coordination with a service site supervised by a faculty member, staff personnel or a community leader. Students establish a partnership with the service site and gain valuable experience towards their major and/or career interest. If a student is undecided on a major or career, the SSG may provide valuable experience that will help them decide on a particular field of study. Qualifications for the SSG include a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for students new Fresno State or a 3.2 cumulative GPA for continuing students and a minimum unmet financial need of $1,920.00, verified by the University Financial Aid Office. The 125 SSG slots are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Consideration to participate in the SSG is given to all students who meet the minimum qualifications. Most SSG service sites are located on campus. Each student selected arranges and coordinates their work schedule with their supervisor. Other responsibilities require that each party record and verify work hours, and each complete an evaluation for the SSG program. Only 20% maximum time is allowed for clerical duties. Interested service sites are encouraged to complete and forward a Service Site Proposal Form as soon as possible to insure themselves the best opportunity for review and selection by students. Service sites already listed with the SSG program are automatically posted as an active service site this semester and do not need to reapply again unless there are changes in their proposal. Thank you for your consideration of providing a service site for our SSG students. We look forward to your participation in the SSG program! |
