Dr. Frank R. Lamas currently serves as the Vice President for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Fresno State. He serves on the President’s Cabinet. Dr. Lamas is responsible for organizing, directing, and managing the resources of the Division to meet the needs of our students, university and surrounding community. Dr. Lamas provides overall leadership and direction to a comprehensive set of 58 departments and units; in addition, he oversees a budget of approximately $22 million, $235 million Financial Aid budget and leads approximately 250 professional faculty/staff and 600 student employees. Fresno State’s 388-acre campus plus 1,000-acre farm has approximately 25,168 undergraduate and graduate students as of fall 2017. Dr. Lamas has over thirty years of extensive experience as a higher education leader and faculty member. Previously, Dr. Lamas was the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at The University of Texas at Arlington for ten years and served on the President’s Council. Dr. Lamas also served as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York for over ten years. He also served as an Assistant Professor at UT Arlington (2012-2014) and Canisius College (1997-2001) in the Department of Higher Education in the College of Education. Earlier in his career, Dr. Lamas was the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at McDaniel College (1990-1994). Other professional positions Dr. Lamas has held are Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Judicial Administration at Ithaca College, Director of Housing and Residence Life at Youngstown State University and Assistant to the Dean and Residence Hall Director at the State University of New York at Oneonta. Dr. Lamas was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Syracuse, New York. He is a first generation college student. Dr. Lamas received the B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, M.S. degree from the State University of New York at Albany and the Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York at Albany in Educational Administration, Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration on Higher Education Administration. His dissertation and research interests include social and academic determinants of retention/student success among college students. Dr. Lamas is involved in a number of state, regional, and national professional organizations. Dr. Lamas served on national and state boards including National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Board of Directors as Chair-Elect, Chairman and Past-Chair (2014-17), Member-at-Large (2011-2013), Texas Council of Student Services Vice Presidents Chair (2010-14), NASPA Conference Chair (2014), and served on the NASPA Foundation Executive Committee member (2016-17). Dr. Lamas has won a number of national and regional awards and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key, and Order of Omega. In 2016, he was named a Pillar of the Profession by NASPA. Dr. Lamas and his wife Deborah have four children. He enjoys time with family, playing golf and involvement in athletics.
