Associate Students

ASI provides a means for student participation in the governance of the campus. It serves as an official voice through which students may express their opinions and it assists in the protection of the rights and interests of the individual student and the student body. Your ASI fees support many programs such as:

Bicycle Safety / Red Bike Programs

The U-bar (Kryptonite) type of bicycle locks are recommended as theft deterrents. Bicycle locks can be rented for $15 per semester. Bikes can be licensed atBicycle Saftey the University Police Department or Parking and Alternative Transportation. Bicycle licensing is strongly encouraged! Found bikes that are unclaimed are sold at auction. The university offers reconditioned bikes - 3-speeds, 10-speeds and mountain bikes, plus a sturdy lock and a safety helmet - all for a $5 rental fee for the semester and a $15 deposit. Students can use the bicycles on- campus or in the community. When the bike and lock are returned at the end of the semester, the deposit is refunded.

Cashier's Window

When you come to Fresno State one of the first things you need to find is the Cashier's Windows. This is where you purchase your parking permit and pay all your fees. Hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (summer)

ID's / Keycard

KeycardYour keycard is the official ID accepted on campus. It allows faculty, staff and students to borrow books. Your keycard is also used to qualify students to vote in on-campus elections and referendums. Your keycard is your:

  • campus ID
  • athletic event discount
  • key to student discounts
  • Pay for Print copy card.

Deposit money on it to get print-outs in the library and on copy machines on campus.

Intramural Sports / Recreation

Funded by Associated Student fees and the University, the Campus Recreational Services (CRS) program is designed to serve the social, recreational, and physical fitness needs of Fresno State students. Facilities include a lap pool, weight rooms (one containing a handicap accessible Freedom Weight Machine), gymnasiums, racquetball courts, tennis courts, an all-weather track and various athletic fields. Recreational equipment is available at low rental rates. CRS also serves the campus staff and faculty. Any Fresno State student with their I.D. card, who has a desire to have fun, meet people, exercise, and compete, may participate.

Henry Madden Library

The Henry Madden Library is located in the center of the campus near the Free Speech Area. The library hours are posted on the web site. The library offers a range of services such as:

  • one-on-one guidance for all students and faculty.

Parking

Parking permits (approx. $68 per semester) can be purchased from the Cashier's Window. Parking tickets (approx. $25) are issued to any vehicle without a valid permit or parked in a lot that is not designated on the permit.

  • green lots are for students and guests
  • yellow parking lots are for staff and faculty
  • blue spaces are disabled parking
  • gold spaces are for special use only

Parking permits may soon be required on Saturdays, Sundays, state holidays, and during special events. Parking areas are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Parking tickets appeal forms can be completed in the parking office. Parking meters are located throughout the campus including:

  • in the parking lot south of the library
  • on Barton just north of Shaw
  • on the east side of the Health Center
  • on Maple north of the Satellite Student Union
  • a few spaces in front of the north gym

University One: Introduction to the University (3-units, elective) If you are a new student at Fresno State, the really smart thing to do is to enroll in a course, University One: Introduction to the University, that provides you with the knowledge you require to succeed in college, including: time management, goal setting, essential study and test-taking skills, and knowledge of campus services: the Learning Center, the Madden library, the Career Center, Advising Services, the Health and Psychological Services Center, and many others. A valuable component of the course focuses on writing an acceptable college-level research paper.
