October 22 – November 18, 2008
UNIVERSITY COURTYARD
October 22, 2008 – Milk and Cookies. University Courtyard will be handing out milk with cookies from 10 pm to midnight in an attempt to educate students about the effects of Alcohol. If you could either make some homemade cookies, rice crispy treats, brownies, etc we would love to pass them out at the event and acknowledge your support. For those of you who do not cook or don’t have the time these days store bought cookies taste just as good. Please deliver the goodies to the Atrium no later than 5 pm on October 22 or call our office at 278-2677 to pick them up.
October 31, 2008 – Halloween Carnival – the students at University Courtyard are putting on a carnival and a safe trick or treating event for the members of the community that surround Fresno State. Elementary Schools in the area along with Stone soup participants have been invited to participate. If you would like to volunteer your time to run a carnival game or donate a bag of candy to this event please call Olivia Munoz at 278-1570.
UNIVERSITY HEALTH & PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES
Starting November 3rd we will begin offering the “Flu Vaccine” to faculty & staff.
The hours will be: 8:00 am – 11:00 am Daily

1. Halloween Bash – Office of Traffic Safety Alcohol Grant & USU Productions
· Date/Time/Location: Oct 31 11:30pm-2:30am Student Recreation Center
· Description of Event: This event is open to all students as an alternative to going out and partying on Halloween or worrying out driving when they know others on the road have been drinking. This is an alcohol free event that offers free bowling, billiards, costume contests, music and educational materials.
2. TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) Training Classes – Office of Traffic Safety Alcohol Grant

· Description of Event: TIPS training is an educational class provided at two different levels. Tips Commercial which is a 5 hour training session for individuals who serve alcohol and Tips University which is a 2 hour class for students to gain alcohol education as well as knowledge about how, when, and why to handle various alcohol related issues. Eddie Dominguez is the TIPS instruction and will be offering classes throughout the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters.

3. Fall Wellness Fair – Health Promotion & Wellness Services & Health Science/Food Sciences & Nutrition/University One Wellness Section
· Date/Time/Location: November 19, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., University Dining Hall
· Description of Event: Health Science, Nutrition and University One Wellness Section students, clubs and organizations host interactive exhibits regarding wellness-related topics for students, faculty and staff.
EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH
Through a rigorous application process, forty-two Educational Talent Search Students have been selected to attend the AHETEMS (Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science Foundation) Pre-College Symposia at the University of Arizona November 13-16, 2008. Students will participate in various workshops and activities in the areas of college preparation, career choices, mock science bowl, attend a formal banquet, and meet many students from throughout the country. They will also have the opportunity to meet Whitlow Woodrow Jr. Ph.D. Director, NASA Research Center, Jaime Escalante, renowned math educator and youth advocate and Justin Rattner VP & CTO, Intel Corporation. Full sponsorship for our participants was made possible by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers – Fresno Professional Chapter and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

SPRING 2009 REGISTRATION
It’s time to get ready for spring 2009 registration!
* Check your registration appointment on-line under your Student Center
* Check your registration holds and make sure you are clear to register
* The Class Schedule is on sale at the Kennel Bookstore
* Make sure your major is correct to avoid prerequisite problems during registration
* Meet with your adviser to plan your class schedule
Continuing Students will register November 3 through November 7. New students will register at one of the Dog Days sessions held in November and December.
A computer lab and registration assistance will be available on Thursday, November 6 and Friday, November 7 on the main floor of the University Student Union from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Students who participate in early/priority registration will have to pay their fees by Friday, December 5, 2008 or make sure a fee waiver/deferment is approved by this date.

VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE
There will be a short ceremony on Monday, November 10th to honor all Veterans & Active Military in observance of Veterans Day, Tuesday November 11, 2008 (approximately 11:45am) at the main flag pole near the Thomas Administration Building. More details will be given through Bulletin Board.
Recreation Center
We are hosting two cycling classes Wednesday evening on October 22nd to benefit cancer research. Class times are 5:15pm & 7:00pm at the Student Recreation Center. Our special guest instructor will be Dan McDonogh, Cycling Program Coach and International Master Trainer.
FINANCIAL AID
Financial aid disbursements take place twice per week throughout the semester. As of October 20, funds have been disbursed to 11,935 students for a grand total of $55,462,132.94. (Disbursement = credited to the student’s account or check issued to the student or a combination of the two.) This week we will have only one disbursement (October 22). Due to the scheduled major upgrade of the CMS PeopleSoft Finance System to release 9.0, disbursement activity which would normally take place on Friday, October 24, has been postponed. We expect to resume normal disbursement activity next Wednesday, October 29.
