Can students earn a "D" grade in their major courses?
Some majors require a 2.0 in every class. Students should consult with their major advisor for specific guidelines on grades for major courses.  As a general rule, every student must earn an average of a 2.0 in major courses in order to graduate.

What does it mean for a student to earn an "I" Grade?
The symbol "I" (Incomplete Authorized) indicates that a portion of required coursework has not been completed and evaluated in the prescribed time period due to unforeseen, but fully justified, reasons and that there is still a possibility of earning credit. In order to be eligible for an "I" grade, the student must have completed at least two-thirds of the required coursework with a passing grade.

Top

Who is responsible for ensuring that the requirements needing to be fulfilled are completed in order to change the "I" grade to a letter grade?
It is the responsibility of the student to bring pertinent information to the attention of the instructor before the end of the semester and to determine from the instructor the remaining course requirements that must be satisfied to remove the incomplete. A final grade is assigned when the work agreed upon has been completed and evaluated.

Top

How long does the student have to complete the "I" grade?
Normally it is expected that the student will make up an "I" grade during the next semester; however, it must be made up within one calendar year immediately following the last day of the semester during which it was assigned. This limitation prevails whether or not the student maintains continuous enrollment.

Top

What will happen to the "I" grade if it is not completed within one calendar year?
Failure to complete the assigned work will result in the "I" being counted as a failing grade for grade point average computation. An "I" grade not made up within one calendar year after the grade has been recorded is changed to an "IC", which is computed into the grade point average the same as an "F" (or an "NC" if "CR/NC" grading was approved).

Top

What are the options for a student who is unable to make-up the "I" grade before the one calendar year limit?
A short-term extension of time may be granted with justification by completing a Request for Extension of Incomplete Grade Form located in the Office of the Registrar, Joyal Administration Building, Room 106.  The Request for Extension of Incomplete Grade form must be signed by both the student and the instructor and submitted to the Office of the Registrar prior to the last day of the semester in which the grade must be made up.

Top

Should students repeat a course in which they received an "I" grade?
If an "IC" grade is in effect due to the fact that the "I" grade was not completed within one calendar year, then students have a choice to repeat the course and file a grade substitution.  If students are within the one calendar year limit, they are only required to complete the missing work determined by instructor.  Refer students to talk to their instructor to determine the best plan of action.

Top

Can students graduate if they have an "I" grade?
Incomplete grades must be cleared before a degree is awarded. In the absence of the instructor who has assigned the incomplete, a student seeking to make up this grade should consult the department chair.

Top

What is a "RD" grade?
A "RD" grade means "report delayed" and that no grade has been recorded for that particular course at the time.  An "RD" grade is not computed into the grade point calculation.

Top

Can students graduate if they have a "RD" grade?
No.  Report delayed grades must be cleared before a degree is awarded.

Top

What is a "WU" grade?
A "WU" grade, formally a "U" grade, is noted as an "Unauthorized Withdrawal."  The "WU" indicates that an enrolled student did not complete course requirements and did not properly withdraw from the course.  The "WU" gives the student 0 grade points per unit and is computed in the grade point average the same as an "F" grade.
Note: It is the student's responsibility to drop courses by the appropriate deadlines.

How many units can a student take for "CR/NC" grading per semester?
A student may not enroll in more than 6 units of "CR/NC" graded coursework per semester. The decision to enroll for "CR/NC" grading must be made prior to the end of the fourth week of instruction and the decision must be recorded by the student at the Admissions and Records Office.

Top

How many total units can a student take for "CR/NC" grading?
A maximum of 24 semester units of "CR/NC" evaluated credit, including all coursework taken "CR/NC" only , may be applied toward the degree.

Top

Can a student take major courses for "CR/NC" grading?
