ELM/EPT

The Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) and English Placement Test (EPT) exams determine what math and English classes you will be required to take at Fresno State. These tests MUST be fulfilled prior to your orientation date or else you will not be allowed to register for classes at orientation.

The EPT fee is $18; the ELM fee is $18

The ELM and EPT are required for all freshmen entering Fresno State. There are exemptions for students who qualify. A short list of exemptions are listed below, for additional exemptions check the Testing Services website: http://www.csufresno.edu/studentaffairs/programs/testing/

Exemptions

ELM

  • A score of 550 or above on the mathematics section of the SAT I.
  • A score of 550 or above on the Level I, IC, II, or IIC of the College Board.
  • Mathematics Achievement test of SAT II: Mathematics Test.
  • A score of 3 or above on the AP Calculus AB or Calculus BC.
  • A score of 3 or above on the AP Statistics exam.

EPT

  • A score of 3, 4, or 5 on the Language and Composition AP test.
  • A score of 3, 4, or 5 on the Literature and Composition AP test.
