Fees
At Fresno State the cost per academic year (two semesters) for international students is $25,413 USD for undergraduate students and $22,215 USD for graduate students.*
*The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees.
Students need approximately $12,000.00 for all expenses through the first week of school. Travelers checks should be used as they can be cashed immediately.
- Expenses are to be paid seperately; Insurance, Fees/Tuition, Housing, Books, etc.
- DO NOT bring one (1) check for all expenses.
- Books and living expenses are an estimate only.
- If you plan to bring dependents with you to the United States, the financial statement must show an additional $3,000 for a spouse and $1,500 for each child. A spouse and children are the only allowable dependents.
Finances
Fresno affords you a moderate cost of living and an excellent academic experience. Few full scholarships are available, but several programs assist students with partial aid. International students are eligible to apply for university scholarships, which range from U.S. $100 to $2,000 per academic year.
International students may work on campus after their first successful semester and graduate students may be selected for teaching or graduate assistantships by their department. Transfer students from a U.S. institution are eligible to work on campus during their first semester.
Thank you for your interest in studying at California State University, Fresno. Since any U.S. education can be expensive, we offer several ways to assist you with your educational expenses.
Our financial assistance is intended to help you, not pay for your entire cost of education. Full support scholarships are very difficult to obtain. Different forms of assistance are available, but you must submit your complete formal application for admission and be admitted to qualify for the following:
- Scholarships
- Applications can be downloaded from the Financial Aid homepage listed below. The application period is generally September 1 through November 1 for the following fall semester.
- California State University, Fresno Scholarships
- Assistantships
- Apply directly to the graduate major department.
- On-campus work
- After one semester, you may apply for jobs on campus with approval of International Student Services and Programs. Transfer students from a U.S. institution are eligible to work on campus during their first semester
- Hardship tuition waiver
- Hardship tuition waivers are limited and priority is given to graduating students. First year students are not eligible for this program. Additional information and the application forms are available in the ISSP office.
- There are other sources of financial aid information. The following publications can be found in large libraries, U.S. embassies, U.S. Information Service (USIS) offices, and/or overseas advising centers. Be sure to ask about national programs in your country as well.

- See the chapter on Nationality Organizations and look for organizations from your country. Many will offer assistance or have scholarships.
- Several U.S. organizations are worldwide and offer scholarships for international study. Contact local, national, or regional offices of Rotary, Kiwanis, Fulbright, and the Institute of International Education. The U.S. Agency for International Development Missions may have scholarships for degrees and academic training programs as well.
The internet also includes sites where financial aid information can be obtained.
