Success Toolkit

We like to think that all of us have a "toolkit" with tools that are necessary to get the job done! Stock up your toolkit with our student-friendly handouts on communication, listening and note taking, memory, reading, self-managment, testing and time-management!

Faculty and students are encouraged to take advantage of the Success Toolkin information.  Whether you need to learn academic study strategies or just want to be a better student, the Success Toolkit can help!

Communication

A big part of what you get out of college has a lot to do with who you work with, not just what you study.  Whether working on a group project or meeting with instructors, your ability to communicate effectively is key to your success.

Listening and Note Taking

Wait, what did the professor just say?!   If you find yourself asking this in class, maybe it’s time to brush up on your listening and note taking skills.  It’s tempting to try and write down every word the lecturer says, or to just tune out when the subject is less-than-interesting, but there’s a better way to do things – without running out of ink or upsetting your professor!

Memory

I read it, I understand it, I just can’t remember it!  Studying only does you any good when you actually remember and put to use what you’ve learned.  Here you can find resources on creating your own study guides, using memory tactics and more.

Reading

Face it - there’s a lot of reading to be done in college … But it doesn’t have to be painful or overwhelming if you approach your textbooks with these tactics.  From traps of studying to our reading worksheet, these resources will help keep you on track.

Self-Management

This is where you can find some of those tips and tactics you wish people would just tell you the moment you set foot on campus.  From finding your learning style, to setting goals or getting adjusted to your first year at CSU, Fresno, the resources are here!

Testing

Tests can be tough, especially if you’re not exactly sure how to approach different types of exams.  Here is information on getting ready for a variety of tests, dealing with test anxiety and even how to dissect your old exams to figure out where you can improve.

Time-Management

Is your schedule so full, you feel like you should be a professional juggler with all of the things you’re balancing? Or are you unsure of how to plan your day or week so you aren’t wasting time? Either way, mastering time management is essential.
