What
We Are
We are a recently established organization at California State University,
Fresno. The purposes of this organization are to learn about and promote
resposible agriculture both on campus and within our community. We plan
to do this by providing students with opportunities to further their
education to alternative practices by meeting with and learning from
practicing sustainable agronomists, interacting with the faculty and
administration of the University in the area of sustainable agriculture,
and by inviting our local community to join us as we learn about, discuss,
and apply environmentally conscious practices of sustainable agriculture.
Who
We Are
The members are a diverse group from all over California, the United
States, and the world. Our membership includes both undergraduate and
graduate students of Ecology, Plant Science, Plant Health, Horticulture,
Viticulture, and Ecology, and we are still growing. Three faculty members,
including a Soil Scientist, a Plant Pathologist , and an Entomologist
also participate. We also invite non-student members from the agriculture
industry and all other fields to join us. Bi-monthly meetings
are held on the Fresno State Campus.
How-The
Plan
•Guest leturers will speak each month on various topics pertaining
to agriculture and alternative agriculture.
•We hope to establish a course in sustainable agriculture at California
State University, Fresno in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
•We are currently developing a small, approximately one-acre plot,
to be used as a continuing organic garden and research project. This
is being done on campus with the goal of offering both an educational
outreach program for the children and adults of our community, and also
offering educational "Tailgate Sessions" for farmers and growers
in the San Joaquin Valley.
