ABOUT US
Dr. John D. Welty, President of California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) established the Task Force in late summer 2007. The Task Force is comprised of thirteen representatives from across the Fresno State campus and community. The representatives were selected from campus positions in Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Administration, Athletics as well as one community member. A list of representative positions can be found on this website.
The Gender Equity Plan supports the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) re-certification process. As a Division I university, certification by the NCAA is required and occurs on a ten-year cycle. Fresno State was successfully certified by the NCAA in 1998-1999.
Included in the scope and responsibility of the Task Force is the development of a 5-year Gender Equity Plan through reviewing and updating of Title IX areas: Interests & Abilities, Scholarships and the Laundry List. Once completed, the Gender Equity Plan will be submitted to President Welty and the NCAA Certification Steering Committee through the NCAA Certification Subcommittee on Equity & Student-Athlete Well-Being.
The charge to the Task Force by President Welty included:
- review plans for meeting Participation and Scholarship Compliance (sport sponsorship);
- review the Laundry List;
- receive input from department staff, coaches and student-athletes;
- identify any areas that are deficient and create plans to correct;
- package a new 5-year Gender Equity Plan for the institution.
The Gender and Minority Equity Subcommittee of Fresno State’s Athletic Advisory Council and the institution’s Title IX Coordinator will continue to monitor on-going compliance with the Plan once completed and approved. With its work complete, the Task Force will be dismissed.
