University Business Cards
Faculty, administrators or staff who need business cards as an integral part of their jobs may request them. Cards also may be appropriate for students whose campus jobs bring them in extensive contact with the public. Supervisors and department heads are responsible for approving requests for business cards.
Employees of auxiliary organizations use cards representing their organizations rather than the university's official card.
What is the standard format for business cards?
Cards bear the name of California State University, Fresno and the university seal. The substitution of any other seal or logo requires the written approval of the vice president for University Advancement at 278.6050.
Cards are printed on recycled card stock in designated inks according to the following guidelines:
In addition to the individual's name, occupational title, department or office and phone number(s), the card may bear the name of the school or division, room number, FAX number and e-mail address. Individual programs or program titles are not permitted on university business cards except by written permission of the vice president for University Advancement.
To facilitate the delivery of mail on campus, business cards are required to bear the street address, the mail stop and a nine-digit zip code (i.e., 93740-0000, incorporating the appropriate building suffix).
It is desirable to keep the information on business cards brief to enhance readability. Information will be limited to the number of lines compatible with the standard design. The typesetter uses standardized titles whenever possible. Printing is limited to one side only and one employee name, title and address unless special permission is obtained from the director of publications. Appeals for exceptions may be made in writing to the vice president for University Advancement.
Degree listings after an individual's name are limited to terminal degrees only, in addition to recognized professional certifications. Examples of terminal degrees are the Ed.D., Ph.D., LL.D., J.D., M.D. Other terminal degrees are M.S.W., M.F.A., M.P.A. and M.B.A. Professional certifications such as C.P.A., L.C.S.W. and M.F.C.C. are permitted. Degrees should be listed in the order in which they were awarded. Determination of appropriate usage of other degree designations after names will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the director of publications or the vice president for University Advancement. Other degrees, such as M.A. and B.A., are not permitted on university business cards.
How are business cards ordered?
Obtain printing information and order camera–ready artwork for imprinting business cards from Printing Services at 278.2740. Printing Services obtains approval for non-standard card content requests from the director of publications. Once approved, Printing Services prints your business cards. Orders are filled in lots of 300 cards. Allow 30 working days for delivery of the cards.
Are there exceptions to the business card standards?
Normally, all representatives of the university carry official California State University, Fresno business cards. An exception has been made in the case of employees of named, endowed schools. Currently, those are the Craig School of Business; the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology; the Benjamin and Marion Kremen School of Education and Human Development; and the Lyles College of Engineering. Those schools may develop their own cards for use by their employees. Although permission is granted to develop a separate look from that of standard university business cards, the name "California State University, Fresno" still must prominently appear on the business card.
