About UHS

Because UHS is public charter school, it must obey state education code unless directed otherwise by its charter. The UHS charter provides a blueprint about the school. UHS is chartered by Fresno Unified School District but UHS is governed by its own Board of Directors as explained in our Organizational chart. Each year UHS publishes its School Accountability Report Card (SARC) that documents how our school is doing.  UHS has both comprehensive graduation requirements and a unique schedule that govern our academic focus.  UHS employs its own faculty and staff and all can be reached by email via our Faculty/Staff directory.

History

UHS was founded in the fall of 2000.  A new school to start a new millienium. The school was the brainchild of a Dean of the school of Arts and Humanities, at CSUF.  The school currently exists in a combination of portable buildings and CSUF classroom space, but is in the process of building a new facility on the CSUF campus with bond money it received from the state. The relationship between UHS and CSUF allows the students of UHS to experience a small-school environment while enjoying the resources of a major university including the option of earning significant college credit while in high school.

Mission Statement

The mission of University High School is to provide an accelerated college preparatory education with a special focus on music. Students receive a strong foundation in music and in the liberal arts and sciences in a small school environment while benefiting from the opportunities available on a large public university campus.
