Publications Review
The university’s Publications Review Policy is designed to help
ensure that campus publications reflect the level of quality and consistency
that should be expected from a major, regional institution of higher education.
What printed materials need to be reviewed?
This policy applies to all department newsletters, brochures,
booklets, etc., that are paid for with university funds and intended
for off-campus audiences.
Specifically, the review policy requires that publications of the nature
described above first be submitted for approval to the Director of Publications
and New Media in the Office of University
Communications.
What publications help is available?
The Office of University Communications is
staffed with trained writers and editors, who are responsible for assuring
the quality, consistency and literacy of as many university publications
as possible. In addition to helping with the editing of newletters, brochures,
booklets, etc., the office staff can assist with estimates, design ideas,
desktop publishing and coordination of printing.
Does my publication have to be approved?
Publications intended for off-campus distribution are expected to be written
and edited with a precision that reflects well on the university.
Generally speaking, your publication should be reviewed by the staff in
University Communications unless you have exceptionally qualified editors available
in your own area. A brief review by trained staff often saves you and
the university from costly or embarrassing mistakes.
Should internal and external correspondence be reviewed?
Letters, memoranda and other personally signed communications, as well
as publications distributed solely within a particular school or department,
need not be submitted for approval. In such cases, it is the responsibility
of the individual writers or departments to ensure that the communications
are accurate and conform to the standards in this manual.
Must student publications be reviewed?
No. Student publications, such as student newspapers, are not subject
to the review process. However, student publications are encouraged to
observe the graphics standards contained in this manual.
How do I obtain these services?
Contact University Communications at ext. 8.8595 or send materials
to M/S KC45. The office is located in Keats Building,
Room 106.
